So I installed ffdshow-tryouts latest 64bit release (ffdshow_rev4422_20120409_x64.exe) on my new computer (http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow-tryout/), and all the encoders I get are these:

Size:	56.2 KB
ID:	12242

No H.264, Xvid, MP4 or whatsoever.

Rebooted PC/Reinstalled it several times, tried the 32bit version. Same thing. For some strange reason they won't appear.

Is this a known issue? I've encountered other people with the same problem over the internet and no solid solution.

I use ffdshow to render in Adobe After Effects. I'm using Windows 7 x64 Ultimate.

    Thanks in advance.

I'm sad to read that. Any alternative to ffdshow for encoding?

PD: nvm, installed an old version. Thanks for the reply.

  4. What format are you encoding to? What are your goals

Just install whatever encoder you need separately - e.g. xvid, install xvid vfw (but you need 64bit), x264, install x264vfw 64-bit. etc...

Many people don't use AE for encoding (export as lossless intermediate), then use other program for final encoding for distribution formats. It's usually not used for final encode (only for inserting sections into other programs, you usually don't use AE for everything). Other reasons - you cannot do 2 pass encode in AE for example , might be important for DVD or Blu-ray or if you have fixed capacity limitations like online flash where you need a set bitrate
