Hi everyone,
I have 1500+ home movie clips to process in Avidemux, but they won't open. They play perfectly in all my players. These are just the ones that won't open - I have already processed over 1000 clips that were fine. The clips that processed okay were from the same source, so I don't understand why so many are not opening in Avidemux.
I have posted a very short video clip (the shortest one I have - only 1.4Mb!) here http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3334489/2009-01-22%2016.02.33.avi. This file is representative of the others.
Media info seems to show no size for the audio.
How do I fix this in bulk?
Try StreamFab Downloader and download from Netflix, Amazon, Youtube! Or Try DVDFab and copy Blu-rays! or rip iTunes movies!

I could open it in avidemux after I remuxed it with ffmpeg. You can use a gui for ffmpeg like winff.
Load the avis(try with one first)
Select Convert to AVI and Preset Xvid fullscreen.
Click on the Options button
Under FFmpeg -> Additional Command Line Parameters add
Code:-acodec copy -vcodec copy

Baldrick, you are the king! It worked! I used WinFF with the settings you specified (after minor fiddling to work out where they were!).
Just a few questions:
1) I notice that MediaInfo shows no audio after remuxing - is that normal? It plays fine.
2) When I open the resulting file in Avidemux it says:
Build VBR time map? Avidemux detected VBR MP3 audio in this file. For keeping audio/video in sync, time map is needed. Build it now? -
A quick remux with VirtualDub worked too. File -> Open Video File, Video -> Direct Stream Copy, File -> Save as AVI.
The original is type 1 DV AVI -- the audio is muxed into the video stream (the way it comes from the DV camcorder). After remuxing with VirtualDUb you get a type 2 DV AVI -- there is a second copy of the audio in the AVI marked as an audio stream. -
i don't know where to find it now, but the program DVconverter can convert multiple type I DVs to type II DV at a time. it used to be here.
but isn't at the link anymore.
[edit] i found it under a different name. same program, it works very well.

I'm another unhappy guy having problem with Avidemux crashes...
I download an Youtube video (mp4 x.264) and needed to apply some vdub filters. I'd like to save as huffyuv for later open and make more editing tasks in Avidemux. But it always crashes when trying to open it...
Here my workflow:
1 - Open mp4 with DirectShowSource -> directshowsource("videofile.mp4")
2 - Apply DeShaker filter
3 - Adjust Huffyuv 2.1.1 encoder
4 - Adjust RGB (24b 888) output (default)
5 - Save file
6 - Try to open with Avidemux
7 - Crash
4 - Adjust YUY2 colorspace for output
7 - Crash again
I tried with Huffyuv previous versions 1.2.3 and 1.3.1 with same result. But, I don't know why, in one attempt, it opened without problem. But I could not repeat that. And I don't know how could be.
What is going on? Am I missing some basic point? I searched for any known incompatibility about Avidemux and Huffyuv, but found nothing. I'm afraid that the bug is with me or my settings...
Here is the bandit.Thank you. -
Thanks to everyone for the suggestions offered.
I solved my problem by using a slightly modified version of Baldrick's suggestion.
I used WinFF with a custom preset with only the following code in the preset:
Code:-acodec copy -vcodec copy
The files now all open perfectly in Avidemux, with no re-encoding having been done at all by WinFF - great little app!!
Thanks again, especially to Baldrick.

Recently, I installed the new Avidemux version, 2.6.0 (r7845).
I'm trying to put 2 audio tracks with a H264 video stream and mux a dual audio AVI.
If I do that using Avidemux 2.5.4 (copy video) it makes an AVI with back screen with 2 audios. Only VLC can see the video and audios.
MPC, MPLayer or GomPlayer just see black screen and audios. The nature of H264 making a dual AVI?
If I make a MKV, it plays well, but ignores the 2nd audio.
But I didn't find how to put dual audio AVI with the new version of Avidemux. And I didn't find where to insert external audio to audio tracks.
So, I have 2 problems:
1 - why version 2.5.4 is creating a black output?
2 - how to use dual audio with new version?
Someone?Thank you. -
You can use a better avi muxer like avimuxgui or the old virtualdubmod to add audio tracks to an avi.
But avi isn't a good format for h264 and several audio tracks. -
I'll give a try to avimuxgui. virtualdubmod had done the job, but because it couldn't read H264 natively, I opened it using DirectShowSource and had to encode again... (bad deal). And used x264vfw AVC codec.
Yes. Now I see.Thank you. -
Look:
Input file is AVI container:

Editet:
Sorry. Format is mp4 container. My mistake.Thank you. -
-
avimuxgui pointed my mistake!
Explaining, for future references and searches:
If I create a video stream H264 in AVI container, Avidemux can produces a good dual audio AVI.
If I create a video stream H264 in MP4 container, Avidemux cannot produces a good dual audio AVI.
Now it's fine. I have a dual audio AVI with H264 video within.
Thx, guys. -
Yes, jagabo. But I was trying to open a MP4 file named as AVI file. Virtualdubmod cannot read it. That was my mistake. When I created the video using MP4 container, I put AVI as extension. Typo error.
Thank you.
