I am an newbie. Please don't hate me.

I bought a video camera and the output files are .avi files and there are no options for other fomats.

Of course my computer and the software I use (QuickTime, Windows Media Player, whatever...) can not read the format.

My question is, can I use the ffmpegX software to convert my files to a readable format?

Yes I did look around and it appears as if this is not possible. Does anyone have any suggestions then as to what software I should use? This is only for amateur stuff.

    Thanks

    Play with VLC.

Or convert to mp4 with handbrake or mpeg streamclip.
