  1. tried with 12.04 but ran into a problem, since it requires opus-tools which are only part of Ubuntu starting with 13.04

  2. I've just installed Hybrid from the ppa onto Mint 17 without any dependency-issues. I think 'djcj' does a great job getting around the licensing-complication by linking to your site when Hybrid is first run and downloading it from there - very nice! Unfortunately I've run into difficulties regarding dependency-paths - although I've installed 'hybrid-tools', when I try loading a video, I get "FFmpeg->analyserCall does not know the ffmpeg file location,.." - so the paths don't appear to have been set correctly.

Also when the above error-dialog is closed, Hybrid throws up another dialog - "FFMpeg VideoAnalyser created an empty call!", which when closed, you find that ALL of Hybrid's options are now greyed out. So you have no alternative but to close & restart Hybrid, rather than go directly to Configuration -> Paths to sort the paths-issue.

  3. "FFMpeg VideoAnalyser created an empty call!" happens due to:
    a. the restarting (fixed that locally a few days ago)
    b. ffmpeg not present since debian seems to use avconv now (working on that
    atm.)

Yep, not present in Mint 17. 'avconv' - 7 years of using Linux and I've never even heard of it, never mind that it is replacing ffmpeg...
    Quote Quote
  5. I hope it really can replace ffmpeg, better would be to install ffmpeg than using avconv since I'm not sure the ffmpeg calls can be directly used for avconv.

  6. okay, did some tests and using avconv isn't really an option.

  7. Only solution to use Hybrid at it's best atm. is to compile some of the tools (especially ffmpeg, mplayer, mencoder)
for example when looking for ffmpeg, none of the existing ppas&co seems to support libbluray&libass:
    https://launchpad.net/~jon-severinsson/+archive/ubuntu/ffmpeg
    https://bugs.launchpad.net/~mc3man/+archive/ubuntu/trusty-media
    http://ffmpeginstaller.com/
    http://johnvansickle.com/ffmpeg/
    http://deb-multimedia.org/ might be a possibility (haven't tested)

  8. Could someone of the Windows 64bit users which before encountered a problem with Kavazaar please test the two attached version and report if the work for him. (simply double click and if no crash message appears everything is fine)
Wanted some feedback before I add these builds to the next Hybrid version,..

released a new version (hoping that the kvazaar problem is not only fixed for my test system)

If you mean just simply launch Hybrid with no crashes then I can tell you that on my Win7-64 there is no crash message. If you want me to run any specific tests let me know.

I have a problem related to chapters.
My source files are MKV: AVC, AC3, chapters. Using Hybrid to normalise the audio, video passthrough to MKV container.
When I try to author a DVD with AVS2DVD with the created files, it crashes when muxing the chapters.
If I delete the list of chapters in AVS2DVD I have no problems.
I haven't touched the settings in Hybrid on the Chapters tab.
Tested AVS2DVD with the original files - no problems.

    Any suggestions?
    Quote Quote
  11. I have never used AVS2DVD, so no clue why it doesn't like the chapters.
    My guesses are:
    a. since Hybrid is using the latest mkvtoolnix version, there might be some changes to the mkv structure, to check this see if AVS2DVD also crashes when you download the latest mkvtoolnix version, open the input file with mmg and save it under another name.
If AVS2DVD does crash then too, it's not the chapters itself, but the way they are saved in the current mkvtoolnix version.
Reading https://trac.bunkus.org/wiki/FAQ%3AImprovingPlaybackCompatibilityWithPlayers and changing some of the Config->Output->Container settings->Mkv Settings might help then.

    b. if the AVS2DVD does not crash with the remuxed file Hybrid must have changed the chapter formating in some way which causes a problem for AVS2DVD (in example converted hh:mm:ss to hh:mm:ss.zzz or added names to unnamed chapters). To see the difference you can use:
    Code:
    mediainfo --full "Path to file"
(alternatively the full detail text mode in the MediaInfo gui should provide the same output)
to see something obvious changed. If that doesn't show anything obvious your next chance would be to compare the output of:
    Code:
    mkvinfo -v "path to file"
    c. If that also doesn't help I would suggest to ask some avs2dvd users (or if available the avs2dvd author)

Hybrid does not see ProRes in the container mkv
    Quote Quote
  13. Does it not see it, or does it see it as apch?
If it's detected as 'apch' -> complain to mediainfo author, since mediainfo isn't reporting ProRes, but apch.

This file I accidentally got through Hybrid, and it seems you can get / repeat it simple renaming prores.mov > prores.mkv
    Quote Quote
  19. If your problem with Hybrid is only if you feed it with a mislabeled file, then that's okay and I don't care (would be simple to much hassle for too little gain too add countless workarounds for this).
If your problem is with an mkv which contains ProRes video, provide me with a sample and I will look into it.

Well, that's just my guess was confirmed that the Hybrid is not properly assigned extension mov> mkv (bug). But even so it can scan and recognize within ProRes?
    Quote Quote
  24. Sorry, but I don't understand what you want to say.

Yes, Hybrid does not handle mislabeled files properly, since it's just plain stupid to rename the file extension of a file.
Could I change this: Yes. (by spending a few days rewriting code)
Will I do it: No, since Hybrid was never ment to be DAU-prove (DAU = dumbest assumable user).

For some reason mkvmerge does not accept file prores.mov < patent restraint (apple)?
    Quote Quote
  26. patent restraint (apple)?
Don't think so. mov-format specification is openly available and doesn't require any licenses iirc.
(and mkvmerge normally does support mov input)
To me it looks more like the internal demuxer code mkvmerge uses doesn't recognize the stream properly.
(ffplay and Quicktime can playback the file properly)
-> you might want to contact mosu (the mkvtoolnix developer) if you want to:
    a. know what is really going on
    b. want this fixed
Best way to contact him is probably through the bug tracker: https://trac.bunkus.org/

There are tons of additional options, but the steps above are the basic. (read the tool-tips on 'Audio handling' and other options to better understand Hybrids workflow)

I would like to mux from TS to MKV. What setting should I use instead?

Is it also possible to demux the AAC into a separate AAC file while doing the above? I would also like normalize the AAC volume before the AC3 conversion? Is that possible? If so, does Hybrid use AAC Gain to do that?

I was using this FFMPEG script to do all that however it causes a 1 minute 5 second delay in the resulting MKV even though the source never had a delay:

    Code:
    "X:\Portable Installations\ffmpeg\bin\ffmpeg.exe" -i %1 -c copy -absf aac_adtstoasc -vn gain.m4a
    "X:\Portable Installations\AAC Gain 1.9\aacgain" -r -k -m 0 gain.m4a
    "X:\Portable Installations\ffmpeg\bin\ffmpeg.exe" -i gain.m4a -acodec copy "%~d1%~p1%~n1.aac"
    "X:\Portable Installations\ffmbc\ffmbc.exe" -i %1 -i gain.m4a -map 0:v -map 1 -c:v copy -c:a ac3 -ab 2 -ab 128k "%~d1%~p1%~n1.AC3.mkv"
    del gain.m4a

  28. I would like to mux from TS to MKV. What setting should I use instead?
Simple remuxing, from ts to mkv:
    • start Hybrid
    • set "Main->Handling->Video handling" to "passthrough"
    • set "Main->Handling->Audio handling" to "passthrough all"
    • open source (Drag&Drop or "Main->File Input")
    • set output name (Main->Output file)
    • Create new job and start it (Main->Start Queue)

Is it also possible to demux the AAC into a separate AAC file while doing the above?
if you enable: "Config->Output->Container settings->General Settings->Keep intermediate files" Hybrid will also save the raw files into your output folder.

I would also like normalize the AAC volume before the AC3 conversion? Is that possible? If so, does Hybrid use AAC Gain to do that?
Audio volume boost to a the maximal level which doesn't produce clipping is possible and Hybrid uses sox for it.
See settings under Audio->Audio Filtering->Gain, for better understanding I wrote [Info] Understanding the audio gain methods,.... a while back.

I was using this FFMPEG script to do all that however it causes a 1 minute 5 second delay in the resulting MKV even though the source never had a delay:
    a. ffmbc and ffmpeg are not the same
    b. looking at your script you totally ignore any audio/video delays or time codes so a/v synch problems are not that surprising. Such a huge delay is. (faulty source?)
If you open a separate thread with a sample where this happens I can look into it.
