It depends if the blu-ray player supports avi mp4 mkv on the bd media.

You can convert it to a bd video / structure and it will work on more blu-ray players. Like you are converting to dvd-video(VIDEO_TS FOLDER). Use https://www.videohelp.com/tools/sections/all-in-one-blu-ray-converters

    No.
Unless you are not being clear on exactly what it is you want to do

I have burned several MKV's to BDRE, bluray rewrtitable, as just a data disc and they play fine.
As long as your bluray player will play the format.

And I have never tried an AVI/Xvid on BDRE before (I usually use a usb thumbdrive) but i don't see why it wouldn't.

can i burn straight mkv files to dvd to play in a blu-ray player that supports mkv, as the mkv file is less than 4gig in size.

tried it, doesn't seem to work

    Edit:
I just saw your posts in the other thread. If MKV playback was added to the player via a firmware update then all bets are off. Most MKV capable players will play MKV files from either DVD or Bluray discs, or via USB these days, but if MKV playback was added to your player as an after-thought via a firmware update, it's MKV playback abilities might be fairly limited.

You can copy any format to a BD and play it in a bluray player as long as it is supported. The player will read the disc as it would a dvd and basicly is the same process as burning a DVD. Thank you for the replys.
