Hello. First of all, i'm going to apologise if this is not the correct place on the forum to post this.
Now to my issue.
I have a video in mkv format and i used multiavchd like i have used many times before, placed it on my external HDD and play it on the PS3, but with this specific video file when i did the playback i had video but no audio.
The audio format is 2channel AC3.
I searched a little bit more and i understood that maybe i should convert the AC3 to AAC and then join audio and video and try again.
But what software should i use to extract the audio? And what software should i use to convert it? And finally, what do i use to mux it all together?
I saw an option in MultiAVCHD when i add a video file, go to its properties i can add or remove audio files, could i add it there and make multiavchd do everything?
Thank you for the help.

ac3 is what you should use for avchd.
I would go back to your source material and try again.
If it were dts I'd suggest converting as apparently its hit or miss with dts on avchd (though your dts enabled amp should play it back its whether or not the ps3 would send it from the avchd properly as its not part of the avchd spec - but it may or may not work).
eac3to can convert a lot of audio source - not sure about an aac output but I wouldn't be surprised if it can. But like I mentioned reconvert again with your original source and leave as is. There is a chance it was just a glitch on the project.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
You should NOT convert to AAC. AAC is not supported for AVCHD so multiAVCHD will convert it, making it have no purpose to deliberately convert to AAC.
multiAVCHD has been abandoned by its creator and it may have bugs in it. If you do not need menus then I suggest that you use tsmuxer to create your AVCHD this one time and see if what it makes is OK. Go back to multiAVCHD in the future and don't worry about why this time it didn't work.
Also, play the AVCHD file on your PC that multiAVCHD produced. Your computer should be able to play 2 channel AC3. If you don't hear anything, try installing the free VLC player. If there is no sound with VLC then you will at least know that it is not an issue with the PS3. -

I don't need a pay version of software but suggestions for avchd authoring would be appreciated. In the end I guess no frills file only output from tsmuxer would suffice but I would like options.
Thanks.

There's no real free alternative to multiAVCHD. I'd love to use it more, but I'll make the same complaint I have for GUI for DVDAuthor. The software seems capable of an incredible amount of things but all the documentation is woefully inadequate. However, if you happen to have any links to multiAVCHD documentation that you think actually is useful, I'd love to know where it is. Perhaps I've missed it somehow. I can at least make very very simple text menus with GfD and I can't even get that far with multiAVCHD.

I'm sure you've looked at some of these. I hope one or two might lead you to the right path.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?
