I'm curious to know if anyone has knowledge on this.
It seems to me that the reason for converting many items to VCD is the advent of the cd burner and expense of conversions and technology at the time.
With the price of dvd-r and their respected burners becoming cheaper
is all the conversion between programs going to be necessary. I know you will not be able to do a 1to1 burn from hollywood type dvd's but it should be possible to do a 1 to 1 rip, convert and and reburn (svcd-maybee) back to dvd-r.
If there is info on the subject and or someone can point me to the right source to read up on this that would be great.
P.S. Is there any companies out there getting ready to release divx compatable boxtop sets for home use.

Most commercial dvds are dual layered. Commercial dvdr burners are single layered burners. Of course you can back up the VOBs without reencoding but you might need to do some ifo editting to get it to play correctly with multi-angle/foreign subtitled discs.
