  1. Hi,

I am thinking about buying a Plextor 16x CD writer... I plan on using Memorex High Capacity 16x cdrs... I have read some posts saying that high speed burning doesnt work... What I am wondering is, do any of you burn at around this high of speed? Do they produce ok VCDs and SVCDs? I have notived there is alot of confusion on this subject, so maybe someone can answer for all of us!

    Thanks

  2. I've burned at 12x-it's as fast as I can burn and haven't noticed any change in quality. I only run into problems when I'm using cheap CDRs.

I too burn at 12x and have additional burn-proofing. I have never had problems with audio, mp3 or data burnt CD's when multi-tasking. However when burning VCD's, SVCD's and other video media types I have had to teach myself not to multi-task , as this sometimes interferes with the video stream. Why, I don't know, as the so-called burn-proof system is meant to eliminate this problem.

Not all high cost CD-R's are of good quality. You will often find that so-called branded CD-R's are actually made by the same companies who produce the no-name low cost CD-R's - they merely repackage them. If you look around the web you can find some interesting details on who makes what for whom, dye variances, quality tests etc. such as http://www.cdmediaworld.com/hardware/cdrom/cd_dye.shtml
