Ever since late last night my internet speeds have been very slow.
I was downloading a series of 20min videos off youtube last night and things really started to slow down before I called it a night. Its still slow.
I unplugged the actual cable modem and plugged it back in (the power adapter). That didn't change anything. I restarted the computer and didn't get any better.
I don't think its my wireless router. I am able to type on my other computer in another room (doing so right now).
Also I was on my ps3 and I could not access vudu hd, something about a network error. The playstation store also seemed to be acting up - the pictures for the various games and videos were not loading properly or flashing on and off.
The xbox 360 was also not responding properly. (the online video stores that is)
Fyi the computer I was using to download the youtube videos and the xbox 360 and ps3 are all connected by wires to my netgear G router (it is a few years old now but I haven't seemed to have any problems with it).
I haven't unplugged my wireless router yet. Would that do anything?
Also I haven't tried unplugging and then plugging the cable modem straight into that computer that I was using for downloading youtube vids. I guess that would eliminate the wireless router as a culprit if its still slow bypassing the router.
Anybody else experiencing general slowdowns today? I can still get online just not at the same zippy cable internet speeds I'm used to. Is comcast hit with something or maybe doing unplanned maintenance?

China shut down some websites yesterday. Some news says they shut down the internet [in China]. I can't verify that. Not sure that would affect you.

The Internet is always slow, depending on the location, the weather, the phase of the moon, and various other factors.
Over here, since last Monday, most "foreign" sites take ages to load, because our main 3rd-World backbone has fallen into a 5th-World hole -
@treetops - well I was using youtube in the us. However it was for videos of a Canadian sourced show. I wouldn't think that would effect it. But who knows maybe there was a ripple effect?
@el hegguente - yeah I know its not always a 100% but a 100mb file was going to take hours to download when it should have just been a few minutes to tops a half hour give or take (again on "average").
Well I'm using the computer that I was downloading with again. I'll find out if the issue reoccurs. THough I am still connected to my router not directly to the modem. If the videos take forever and a day to load again I'll switch directly to the cable modem and see if it still happens.
Edit - whew - its back! It seems like its back to its old self again. Weird.

Not an April fools joke. It's in the news. You can google it. But is appears just a few websites were shut down.
