In VirtualDub: open the file, add the bob double filter, step through the video frame by frame with the right arrow key. If you get two-steps-forward-one-step back motions you have the wrong order selected in the bob double filter.
In AviSynth you can use AssumeTFF().Bob(). Step the video frame by frame as with VirtualDub. If motions are ok your video is tff. Else bff. You can also use AssumeTFF().SeparateFields().
DVD is usually TFF. DV is BFF. Different capture devices will capture with different field orders. If you pick the wrong field order you will get very fast jerky motions on playback. -
