Importing from APP to AE, why is it all black?

I need to put effects onto this video I made in APP5.5 however when I do, some parts of the video are black as if they didn't get imported properly. I don't get a warning that it hasn't imported properly or anything like that and when I try to manually import it its still all black. What is the issue and how can this be resolved and why is AE so full of sh*t?

Need to know file format and codec information on your source video and Premiere project settings. Both Premiere and AE are designed primarily for production videos, not re-purposing internet-streamed or ripped videos. Be sure to check with the Adobe website to gain an understanding of compatible video file formats.

It is also possible (but I am no expert on this) that certain functions may be blocked out of the software when only using a trial version.

...and why is AE so full of sh*t?

Cannot be sure if the fault lies with the software or the user, until we know a bit more about the source video and project export formats. Given AE's solid history over the years, it is unlikely that the software itself is "full of sh*t."

solid history? Terrible defaults, imcompaitable NO playback ability, sounds like a fanboi to me. The format means diddily squat, all the video is the same, yet only a few seconds of it is black, which means its the software being faulty and not importing it properly, you don't know what you're talking about. Next.
