Those problems are not so annoying on my PC.. but a friend of mine who has a core I3 has more problem to read it.
Is it perfectly smooth on your PC? Do you see any problem with my file?

  2. I wouldn't expect a properly set up Core i3 PC to have problems either. The video is perfectly smooth on my pc. I don't see anything wrong with the encoding of the video.

  3. Thank you. Is it possible that VLC is the problem?

If I encode to a higher bitrate, would it tend to make the file play slower?

  4. VLC is usually pretty reliable. Try different output devices. Try disabling hardware decoding. All in VLC preferences.

Higher bitrates do require more CPU power to play back.

  5. Why are double framerate videos slower to play? I mean, it should consume more CPU to bob deinterlace on the fly because the player not only have to play at 59.94fps but also have to calculate each frame in real time!

However, the video is perfectly smooth when I play the original VOB on VLC with yadif (2x) and doesn't have slowdowns like my MKV-h.264...

  6. decoding h.264 is much more CPU intensive than decoding MPEG 2. Most players leave it up to the graphics card to bob deinterlace at playback.
