I have a Sony Handycam TRV480 and Vegas 9 under Win 7. Yesterday I tried to upload about 10 minutes of tape video to Vegas. It would not recognize the device. I tried a newer Canon and got it to connect.
I wiggled the firewire connector in the camera and was looking at the Imaging Devices entry in the Device Mgr in the Control Panel. Every few wiggles would cause the CP to refresh, but did not show the camera. Last night when I was playing around with this arrangement, the Imaging Devices entry would show the Sony camcorder, but it would disappear. I changed cables and still had the same problem.
Today I opened up the PC, and wiggled the firewire board. It didn't help. The 5-6 stripes in the DV port of the camera look fine, eyeballed. I think that port may have a loose connection inside the camera. I might be able to open it up and look at the connections with a VOM. Any suggestions?
This was working fine 3 months ago, and I only used the camera in the last few weeks.
$140 to have Sony repair it.
