Hey,
I have a full-HD (1080p) movie in .MKV container which I want to transcode to 480p to play on my non-HD standalone DVD Player, which supports .AVI, MPEG, etc. So, what are the step-by-step procedures to get this done? I've tried the simplest way which is using a program called Format Factory, which is very good for noobies like me, but it doesn't work sometimes.
Help, please?

Try avstodvd to make an actual dvd out of it.
Or try multiavchd which has a few newer file output settings aside from dvd/bluray and avchd.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Hey yoda,
I've tried them both, and it seems like AVStoDVD is working out better for my needs, but there's still one more thing I cannot get around with: them subtitles! It's like, yeah I do all the right procedures: I open up a new blank project, then add a title and it asks to demux the subtitles (ok, fine). Then, I start transcoding the movie to a DVD-5 format (yes, I'm cool with it). But, what I can't get is, how can I add my adorable brazilian portuguese subtitle file into the movie after I burn it onto a DVD-R?
I'm slacking pissed off - it's barely the third time I am transcoding this same gosh movie and I am getting boredsome. -
There is a huge avstodvd thread on this website. Just do a forum search for avstodvd and you'll find it. Its like 400 pages or something. I don't work with subtitles too often so I can't help off the top of my head here.
Just forum search avstodvd and subtitles together in one search and you should get the help you need.
edit - Here are two threads to read:

The first is the massive support thread for avstodvd. The other is a subtitles specific thread. Searching avstodvd + subtitles will provide more assistance.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?
