Hi, I'm new to video capturing in general, and to this forum.

I recently bought a Canon Legria HF R206 camcorder. This past weekend, I used it the first time to record some clips of my son doing athletics.
I installed the bundled Pixela Videobrowser software and downloaded the clips without any problem.
My problem started when I wanted to start editing the clips, to combine them. The program froze and gave a message (not responding), next to the name, top left.
I exited the program, re-started my laptop, tried to open the program again, but it didn't want to open. The clips was shot in the highest quality HD setting in the camera.

    I'm using a Lenovo laptop, "Lenovo Win 7 , Intel (R) core (TN) i3 CPU M 380 @253 GHz 2.53
    Installed RAM 3.00GB, 64bit OS"

Any help to get this program started again, or info as to why it won't open, will be appreciated

    Thanks

    Christo
(PS, please pardon my English, it is not my home language)

those programs included with cameras are worth what you paid for them, nothing. you might try uninstalling the program deleting any folders it made and then starting over by re-installing it.

you might look into something like vegas studio for editing, but with only 3gb of shared ram any editor is going to take a long time because it's going to need to swap ram to the hard drive. win7 64 takes about 1. 5gb just to load, then there is your shared video also.

Thanks for the reply aedipuss. I've uninstalled the program, and reloaded with supplied cd, uninstalled again, downloaded program from web, installed it again but the problem remains.

A friend suggested a program Pinical Studio, will this be able to handle the job?

What would you suggest be the minimum laptop specs to get these video editing programs to work at a reasonable speed? My knowledge of computers are limited.

I just need the program for basic combining+trimming of clips (for the family), and the ability to save the videos at the same HD quality to a DVD, if possible?

I tried Pinnacle, was not impressed. I use avidemux for editing, but it's not a basic or really user friendly program.

Try the tools/downloads section on this site. It's helped me a lot. Remember that some of these tools haven't been updated in years and so won't necessarily handle newer formats.

I'm afraid you can't burn HD video to DVD format without loss of resolution. HD is 720p or 1080p in height. DVD is 480p, at least with NTSC. PAL is a little different but still nowhere near HD quality.

I don't burn DVDs much anymore but avstodvd was the only reliable one I found, though I uninstalled it because it installs codecs I don't want.

DVDFlick is popular too, at least on this forum.

if possible i'd add ram to the laptop. i'd go for 6gb if possible with win7 64, with one hard drive it's hard enough for laptops to do any editing.
