Using MPEG_Streamclip to edit family movies from DVD files. Able to create segments/clips using MPEG_Streamclip in Windows Vista but cannot access videos in Window 7 - video files will not display. Any suggestions on how to lighten dark edited videos using MPEG_Streamclip. Any suggestions for free software to accessing video clips from *.vob files. Many thanks for all assistance. John L.

Hi and many thanks for the quick and informative assistance.
What exactly doesn't work? Windows 7 - open vob file in MPEG Streamclip and play and 1 video frame displays and the the time counter progresses & displays but the video frame does not change. Also a scroll bar along the bottom of the video does not display which normally displays the progress of the video playing. FYI: can view avi files successfully using MPEG Str. Hope this answers your question.
You can also edit vob/mpeg2 with avidemux or if you just need to cut use mpg2cut2 Have downloaded avidemux and will try it - still prefer Mpeg Streamclip - mainly because I am a slow learner. And if you can't play vob in wmp then try install ffdshow and lav filters. Prefer WMP but do use CMP (Classic Media Player) but prefer to convert vob file to wmv so that family members can view wmv type videos on WMP or REAL Player.
If possible I prefer to use MPEG Str. to select video clips. This is my 1st entry to this forum and I am very impressed with the results. Unfortunately I am a novice (and slow learner) at video editing and have much to learn. If anyone has other ideas about using MPEG Str in WIndows 7 and how to lighten old dark videos your help would be appreciated. Once again thanks for speedy and very helpful information. John L -
Are you using latest mpeg streamclip beta version? If not then try it.

Hi and as usual you were quick and informative. It was a good suggestion to try the beta version and I did thanking that this was the solution to my problem. Surprisingly the beta version did not work - same problems. The video would not advance and the slider that displays the in and out of the video to be cut did not display. The bete verision was for Windows 7 which the current version was only for XP & Vista. Thanks for you assistance. John L.

For adjusting videos some advice here: http://www.windowsmoviemakers.net/PapaJohn/35/Adjusting_Dark_Movies.aspx
And it may or may not help but Windows Movie Maker install package is available for 32 and 64 bit Windows 7 (see below):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COncNnm6A3U
It can cut and merge clips and produce full dvd's and has a simple GUI and slideshow feature. Good for free.Last edited by transporterfan; 19th Mar 2012 at 21:02.

I am having roughly similar problems to OleMan and this is my first post on the forum. Been using Streamclip 1.2beta2 (now) (& QT Alternative 1.81) for about 3-4 years under XP Pro to watch recorded TV in .ts and MPG formats and in particular to be able to scoot through quickly using <PageDown> to rapidly advance 10 sec at a time, <ArrowDown> at about normal video rate and <ArrowRight> to advance frame by frame. <SpaceBar> for stopping & starting the normal video mode, Excellent !! Under Win7x64 Pro,with QTAlternative1.81 and the latest Streamclip1.21beta5, I still can't get Streamclip to work, even using Compatability WinXPSP2 mode. Same prob as OleMan that sound advances normally. If stopped with spacebar, the <PageDown>, <ArowDown> and <ArrowRight> advance the time position. Video doesn't advance from whatever it was when the file was opened. Am I missing some video codecs ?? Really want to get W7x64 Pro running properly as support for XP will disappear soon and Streamclip does exactly what I want (which VLC VideoLAN doesn't).

I am having problems opening MPEG TS video clip using MPEG Streamclip software; I have also installed QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component for Mac OS X. But whenever I try to play a TS video clip, it looks like MPEG Streamclip does not recognise the format: the video timeline bar keeps moving and I see a grey window with no audio or video. Has anyone here experienced the problem and can anyone advise me.
Version number: MPEG Streamclip 1.9.2
Operating system: Mac OS X
Cheers

Have you tried mpeg streamclip 1.9.3 beta8?
And what is the video codec in the ts? It could be avc/h264 and I don't know how well it works in mpeg streamclip. You can identify the codec in the ts with for example mediainfo. -
Video codecs used: AVC
I have just tried to used MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3 beta8 and the problem is still there -- the video timeline bar keeps moving and I see a grey window with no audio or video -
I was searching for a tool that will allow me to remove the first few frames from a TS video and MPEG Streamclip kept coming up.
