Hey all.
I own a Avermedia capture station C874. My wifes laptop was stolen recently in a break in and it had the capture software on it. I lost the original software disk, so I bought Sony Vegas Movie studio HD. I have installed these drivers: http://www.avermedia.com/Product/ProductDetail.aspx?Id=520&tab=APDriver
Now when I start up MS I cant see anything. It says "device not available" Are these the right drivers? I just cant get the thing to work. I also have Showbiz....it shows the video......but I cant choose how to save it. I think it was supposed to save it as a .ts.....but it does not give me an option.
Any thoughts?

Thoughts ?
First you need to input some computer specs ... this helps greatly to determine the issue.
1: Install drivers, 2: Reboot system, 3: Connect device and wait for windows to complete install ... any other way can cause issues.
Vegas should have an options panel which allows you to chose input device for capture ... if it's not listed then either repeat the install as posted above (sometimes it can take as much as 3 system reboots for windows to sort itself out) ... then try vegas again ... failing that it may be vegas is not compatible ... may be related to the fact that the device has a h.264 hardware encoder
Should give NextPVR a shot, supports hardware with inbuilt encoders. -
If you live in N. America, you may need to download drivers from a AVerMedia's US website. http://www.avermedia-usa.com/AVerTV/Product/ProductDetail.aspx?Id=488&tab=APDriver

Sorry for the late reply. As I was creating this thread, the hard drive died and I had to RMA the laptop. Just my luck. But I got it back yesterday. Here are the specs.
Lenovo ideapad B575
AMD E300
4GB memory
500 GB HDD
I tried your suggestions Bjs. Did not help. Vegas shows the same "Device not recognized" So I assume Sony is not compatible. NextPVR gives me an error, even after .net4 and the other update was applied.
I also Installed usually_quiet's link to the drivers. I did that first using your instructions.
I re-installed Showbiz, and I get the same thing. Shows the video, but can not capture. -
There is a Windows 7 Media Center plug-in at AverMedia's N. American website http://www.avermedia-usa.com/avertv/product/ProductDetail.aspx?Id=488&tab=APDriver It would allow you to make scheduled recordings with Windows 7 MC. I don't know if it also allows the Avermedia USB HD DVR C874 to work with Next PVR. I did a search in Next PVR's wiki and forum, and found comments indicating that Hauppauge's Colossus and HD PVR are supported, but nothing for the Avermedia USB HD DVR C874.
I don't have either Showbiz or the Avermedia HD Capture C874, so I can't offer advice for capture set up.Last edited by usually_quiet; 27th Mar 2012 at 17:16.
