  1. I am learning how to play the Chinese violin now. Like the western violin, training the ear is critical - there are no frets on the neck of this instrument so the ear has to say "sharp" or "flat" I am looking for software that will hold the music tablature that I will be playing and will be able to compare what the computer hears with what the music says that I should be playing and tell me whether or not I am out of tune. If there is such a thing, what is it called?

Therein lies one of the main challenges of playing a fretless instrument, be it a violin, viola, cello, double bass, fretless guitar or fretless bass (like Mick Karn), or your erhu. You can eventually produce more subtleties of sound, but first you have to develop your ear and your ear/fingering coordination. Listen to good players, like 我的好朋友 Lei Qiang.

Start by making sure your erhu is well tuned: http://www.onlinetunermetronome.com/preset/erhu-tuner-standard.html

Step two holds true wherever you are in the world:
    - How do you get to the Peking Opera?
    - Practice.
