im doing some work for a museum. the player must have a "repeat all" function, and whats allmost as important is that it can auto-start when given power from the cable.
is this all in the DVD players functions, or is it possible to make a VCD that automatically repeats itself.
i guess the autoplay thing dependes on the Player.. the 3 Thomsons we bought dont work. they can neither repeat vcd's or autoplay.
does anyone know a player with the functions im talkin about ?
thx for a great site !

You can definitely make a VCD that repeats itself indefinitely.
For example, in the simple multitrack (method 3): http://www.vcdimager.org/guides/simple_multitrack.html#method3
If you alter the <playlist> lid-002 to the following:
Code:<playlist id="lid-002"> <prev ref="lid-001"/> <next ref="lid-000"/> <return ref="lid-end"/> <wait>2</wait> <autowait>0</autowait> <play-item ref="sequence-02"/> </playlist>
As for autostarting a VCD (e.g., power on or with disc insertion), that is completely player dependent.

Seems like you are concerned about the unit getting shut off due to power interuptions? You then want it to autostart the cd without any interaction. Might I suggest a UPS (Uninteruptable Power Supply). This would not only prevent the inturuption, but provide your unit 'power spike and brownout' protection. A UPS would provide redundancy and hardware protection. The amount of time they keep the units up would depend on the size of the UPS. A low end unit would be fine for this application and ~30 mins uptime without AC power. These are fairly inexpensive. If you are going to hook all 3 units up to one UPS you could go a heavier one. These players should draw little current and a UPS that can provide a couple hours uptime shouldn't be off budget.
From the sound of it your units simply cannot do autoplay. Preventing the shutdown in the first place would avert this issue.
Just my thoughts.. -
?? I don't quite think that was the issue at hand...
