  1. I am creating MKVs and where I have only 1 sound option from the disc rip to choose like AC3 5.1 channel. I will choose to copy audio.

If I have 2 options of AC3 5.1 & AC3 2 channel. Is it worth copying both sound options or Do i just copy the 5.1 option. I would like the file to be in 5.1 where it can be used etc.

Then on some DVDs they have the DTS 5.1 soundtrack and a AC3 5.1 soundtrack. Am i being silly copying both. SHould I only need to copy 1 sound file being the DTS 5.1

For what reason in MKV would you need more then 1 audio file.

  2. AC3 is better supported. For example, my HDTV doesn't do DTS passthrough to receiver, it downsamples to PCM 2.0. OTOH, AC3 5.1 is passed through fine. Some media players don't fully support DTS either.

My opinion is, since AC3 5.1 at 640 kbps or even 448 kbps is "transparent", and BTW it's smaller in size as well, it's good enough.
    Pull! Bang! Darn!
