Hello everyone, i'm new here.

I've found a great deal of help on this site, but i seem to be stuck. i'm having trouble converting smr (nAVI's) movies to Mpegs to use for vcd's I'm getting my brother to do the conversions because his computer is much faster than this one. I'm on a pentium 133MHz with 64Mb of ram running under Windows 95. His is an AMD XP-1800 with +1Gb of DDR ram running under Windows XP Proffessional.

Now, I know all the files i have work because i can view and encode them on this computer, but it runs very choppy when viewing (because of the slow proc speed) and takes forever to encode. Also the encoding gives pretty low quality results(multicolored blocks appear in the video quite often). I've installed the smr_patch for windows media player to be able to view the files on both machines. also i'm using TMPGenc to encode them.

We tried to view the files on his computer but it still couldn't recognize the files, even with the patch installed. we tried to do the encoding even though we couldn't view the file and it seemed to be going alright for the first couple minutes. then the remaining time started going way up from about 1 hour 30 mins to over 10 hours, and it seemed to stop progressing. we then stopped the encoding and viewed the small mpg that was created, the audio was fine but there was no video.

the only thing that i can think of is that the smr_patch and TMPGenc don't work under windows XP. anyway, i'd very much appreciate anyone's help/suggestions, and sorry for the really long post Thanks again!
