Here is my problem.

I am using C:\TMPGEnc-2.02.31.119\TMPGEnc.exe to convert the
video from AVI to MPEG1.

It loads up, and then halts about 1-2 seconds into the video. It appears
to me that this is when sound first starts.

Video plays fine in Windows Media Player 7.1

Read posts saying to use virtualdub to export sound. Get "Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'WMV1' (unknown).

Used Virtualdub 1.3c since this one was supposed to work.

Also downloaded divx311 codecs, divx5 codecs. Already have nimo44 codecs installed.

I have converted other video with no problems, but on some I get this error, or I have also seen an error where TMPG will take a small file (200MB), and say that it will take 98 hours or something to convert, even at a normal setting.

Have also tried moving enviroment priorities for directshow to 2, and moved other AVI ones around and up to see if this helps. No dice.

Running on 900MHz Athlon with 512MB memory. No problem with disk space.

Suggestions?
