  1. Win 7 Home Prem32, Vegas 11 Studio Platinum trial.

I read a couple of threads but they were about older versions, and somebody said this was a problem but had been fixed.

If I render my video (1080p50) to avi, using the x264 codec, playback either peoduces a black screen, or allows "print through" of the underlying screen, below the player. I have tried vlc media player, Windows MC (black screen) and and MP (print through).

Somebody demonstrated that avi, if you use the x264, gives good quality and small files, if done right.

    Any ideas much appreciated.

  2. Note: I just found out that this only happens if I do a multi-pass render.

Nope. I guess most doesn't put h264 in avi. It's better to use mp4 or mkv for that.

But do you have to use multi-pass? Constant quality encoding should be enough...if you don't need a specific output file size then.

  5. Yeah I can use constant quality. I was just checking in case I did need smaller files.

Funny thing is r3ecently I saw a video on YT about and avi being the best bang per MB of output, yet most people say don't use it.
