VLC not playing mkv(720p, h264) files smoothly?

I has seen the video many times smoothly in the same computer that i have problem. Audio stream is working well. When play video stream, for a second or more the screen gets stuck and returns and again it happens after one second. I have installed K -Lite latest version, XP codec pack. Anyway the video will surely play because i had played it several times. Please help me to solve this and don't suggest another player.

If I remember correctly, for Windows: From the Windows Start menu, select Run, and enter the following:

%appdata%

That should take you to your Application Data folder. Look for the "vlc" folder.

Alternately, you can try using the option in VLC's preferences to reset/delete VLC's preference files. Either way, though, you'll probably need to reconfigure settings, if you've changed any of them since installing VLC.

You can try solveigmm avi trimmer. It support mkvs and doesn't reconvert.

vlc doesn't need 3rd party codec packs to play .264 or anything else I know. Good programs don't.

Did it play fine before you installed K-lite? Or did you update it? Try uninstalling it if so.

I used to have stuff like ffdshow and haali on my machine that avstodvd installed. I yanked all that crap and both vlc and smplayer (which I prefer) render better now.

I too have seen issues with k-lite and MKV. I stopped using it awhile ago.

Help me. The problem increased by 90%. I'm trapped. I'll give more information on this. Please try to help me.

I only use VLC player as i like it so much. I have many HD videos in mkv and mp4 formats. Now when i play them at first they work fine but after sometime it starts lagging and skipping the video but audio remains perfect. I'm sure it can be solved as these videos have been playing perfectly in the same computer for the past years. I don't know what happened.

Additional info:
I have installed K-Lite codec pack, XP codec pack and CCCP in my PC and uninstalled them except XP codec pack as i have read in other forums about the problem happening between these codec pack and VLC. I'm currently using the latest version(2.0) of VLC media player.
I was looking for this solution for the past many days. I reckon i'll get a solution here. Thanks.

As to verify the problem is with VLC media player, i played the videos in GOM player and MPC-HC. They both show same type of reactions. I can't play the video file that i've played smoothly before in the same computer. Help me.

What is running besides the VLC player that wasn't running when it worked?

What you are describing is how VLC will behave when it can't keep up and you don't have it drop frames. IF you were dropping frames in the past then you have to reset VLC to drop frames to maintain the video and audio sync. IF you were neither dropping frames or losing sync THEN something is running in the background that is slowing you down OR you turned off hardware acceleration and had it on previously.

This breaks down to

You changed a setting in VLC.

You updated to a newer version that is running slower.

You have program running in the background that was not in the past. For instance you could have changed brand in Anti-Virus software or installed a new program that is running a background task.

I was running Google chrome beside it. But i don't open it always. I have used them both at the same time before without problems. I've updated VLC. But the previous version I've used also had the problem. I've changed settings in the older version like increasing caching but not in the version I'm using now. I've always used Eset antivirus. I didn't change it.
