  2. Newbie. Read thread.

Do any of the programs mentioned allow you to set a tag to a certain point in the file's timeline ?

I have family video library. Roughly 50 files, each 1 hour AVI long, each with dozens of clips inside the big files.

I'd like to catalog and tag the clips. So can I add a tag that would describe/tag/locate Joey's 10th birthday as 10:45 into Tape 7 ?

So I'm looking for a program where I could type "Joey AND birthday" and get tag described above. Then I'd click on it and it would open Tape 7 file and automatically go to 10:45 ?

Maybe I'm dreaming. Thanks in advance !

I have not personally tried any of these, but this list contains 7 applications at this time that might do what you'd like:

Minor correction -- $3.50 USD is all you have to pay (though you can pay more too ) -- there is no yearly fee. You get free updates for at least a year, though it's been 2 years and I still send all updates to all those who purchased

I'm amazed how people waste time in software/apps (or in threads like this, about said software/apps) that will someday go tits-up and stop working, with no way to export the data. You'll have pissed away countless hours.

I cannot even remember how many times I've seen that happen over the years. Then cue all the "what do I use now" posts.

Meanwhile, my spreadsheet still works, as it has for the past 2 decades.

The Video Hub App has had numerous improvements in 2020. I now use it as my only video organizer having given up on two far more expensive and complex programs.

It enables me to easily organize my numerous video clips. In using Video Hub I do not have to make changes that would be lost if I decided to use another product.

Video Hub is a bargain at many times the asking price.

Fantastic! Scenealyser for all video file types including DV. This is terrific. Just what I have always wanted. A video explorer that doesn't require you to play each video to see what's in it. Even you'd be impressed, LS.

Windows throws a hissy fit when I tried to download the 2.2.3.exe installer, saying it was a harmful file.

Hmm, Malwarebytes just obliterated it off my machine...

  15. Thank you Dubinvero and Alwyn for the review!

The full source code of the app is available on my GitHub: github.com/whyboris/Video-Hub-App

An anti-virus might complain because it detects Node (which comes packaged with Electron - the framework I use to build the app). Node is a library that can execute any JavaScript code, and it has access to the file system (which is required for the app to extract screenshots from the videos).

The software has been declared 100% Clean by Softpedia

As long as you are downloading the software from the official website, I can guarantee it is safe to use: VideoHubApp.com

Thanks Boris, I'll try to get Malwarebytes to leave it alone.

  18. Hey, I have windows and use the free software "Fast Video Cataloger" for organizing my video files. I'm happy with it because you can also search, browse, find and play all your video files fast and easy! If you're still unsure, you can also take a free trial at first and look how it works for you.

    Diffractor is an interesting tool

    https://www.diffractor.com/

Name:	screenshot.png
Views:	177
Size:	763.1 KB
ID:	56192

    Overview
Diffractor provides simple tools to make you more productive when sorting, comparing and organizing photos or videos. It integrates with other more specialised software like photo editors or video players etc.

    Viewing and playing
    Veiw and Compare
Diffractor can view and play a large number of file formats and codecs.

ENTER opens a photo or video full screen.
SPACE stops or starts playing a video/audio file or a photo slideshow.
ESCAPE gets you out of full screen or other modes.
LEFT or RIGHT moves to the next or previous item.
Control LEFT or RIGHT extends the current item selection and allow comparing of items.
    Files and Folders
Diffractor can view or play files and folders on your PC. Diffractor only searches folders it has indexed. You can add any folders to the index using index options (press control-F6).

    Folders
Most users like to keep photos in a structured folder hierarchy. Diffractor has the import or structured copy function (press F9) that can copy selected files into a hierarchical folder structure root-folder/year/date.

If you have files on a memory card, something similar to an import can be achieved by using the 'import or structured copy':

Insert the memory card into your PC.
In Diffractor open the drive where the card is located.
Click flatten or the Show > Show items in sub folders (control-F9) menu item to show all items on the memory card.
Select items you want to import.
Open the structured copy dialog (press F9) and copy the files onto your PC.
Don't forget to backup regularly, keep your media safe.

  20. Hi guys
I've just stumbled across this thread as I'm looking for something to try to organise my home videos. We have a three year old and like most parents these days end up with hundreds of videos on top of the thousands of photos we end up taking.

@yboris - a couple of questions. Does your application monitor folders for new files? So if I point it to certain folders it'll pick up any new files added? Or do they need adding manually?
And when you add tags and rate them, are these ratings stored within the file? Can Windows see the ratings for Explorer? It would be handy to be able to rate videos and then select some to use to make a video, for example.

@scorpBY Your Videonizer 4 looks intetesting too, but can I make a suggestion? When I looked at the images and video on your site it makes it looks like you're aiming it at people who want to manage their porn collection.....! You might find some people looking for something to manage home, holiday, etc videos (such as me) move on when they look a the images and videos! Just a suggestion....!

  21. Hey @Emanef thank you for the questions!

Video Hub App as of version 3.0.0 allows you to "watch" / "monitor" folders for new files. You can add many folders to a "hub" (a custom video collection) and choose which ones to watch and which you'd prefer to update manually (a single button click).

Tags and ratings are stored only in the .vha2 file (the "database" of all your videos), your video files are never edited (unless you choose to rename or delete them from within the app). So no other applications (or Windows itself) will be able to see your tags or ratings created in my app.

You can drag videos out of VHA into your video editor (just enable that feature in the settings). This may be a better solution than using the Explorer.

    Cheers!

Thanks, I think I'll give it a go. Looks like a useful and simple way to scan through lots of videos and quickly relabel then and select for collating to videos.

  24. I was looking for a Video/Image Organizer [Free Only] and landed on this thread.

I wanted to try Vee-Hive and Videonizer, but Windows 10 warned me against installing them.

I just want to hit DEL key to delete the image while watching it.

    Thanks.

No worries running VideoHub here (perhaps yboris has full access to my hard drive? ). I find it very handy for finding videos. Now if yboris would add an option to display file name extensions it would go from Great to Terrific!

  27. Hey @ConverterCrazy & @Alwyn - Video Hub App doesn't send any information about your computer anywhere. The only time it does anything with the internet is when you press the "check for new version" button (and it just checks for latest version - it sends nothing out).

All the code is available for you to check: https://github.com/whyboris/Video-Hub-App and if you prefer not to purchase, you can build your own copy (you can even customize it with your own code!)

    @ConverterCrazy, it's $5. That's the cost of a cup of coffee here.
