Hello. Complete newb here, I know, I know, sorry. I have an issue that I do not know how to fix. I am very inexperienced at burning DVD-R movies. I have a folder with a bunch of files which is supposed to be a full DVD rip, I guess? I want to burn it to DVD-R. I have done this once before using ( I know...) Windows Movie Maker. But, one of the files has the wrong length in it. There are five files that are vob files, and the first one is very short, which is the main menu, I think. The next three are all about 29 minutes long, then the fourth one says it is 25 hours long! the length reads 25:04:38, so when I try and burn a DVD, it says 1440 minutes over length! haha. The other four vob files seem to have the correct lengths, like 00:29:08, etc... Is there any way I can "fix" this vob file, so I can burn a DVD-R? I don't know anything about this, so any help is immensely appreciated. Many Thanks.

Thank you so much for your response. I will try those methods and see what happens. I am hoping to get more experience with this, because I have a ton of home movies I want to burn DVD's of. Thanks again!

ok, so I'm back, of course... I tried to burn the file with imgburn, and it failed. It seemed to be unable to write the last VOB section, which is the one with the messed up time. the DVD plays okay, but stops right where the last VOB section is supposed to be. Sooooo, I tried to merge the VOB files, which kind of works. I can play the merged file front to back (which is the whole movie), but the duration of the file is 00:00:00. Even though it plays for an hour and a half. So, that means that when I try to burn a DVD using the merged file, it says it can't add the VOB file because it is under 1 second in length. I am one confused puppy. My troubles all seem to stem from that one VOB file that says it is 25 hours freaking long, when it is actualy 25 minutes. Sorry to bother you folks, but I really need to figure this out. Thanks for any help or advice.

How are you in possession of this movie/vob files? If you ripped a real DVD,
something may have gone wrong there.
It may be the result of some anti-copying schemes. -
It was ripped from a purchased DVD, but not by myself, so I don't know how or with what it was ripped. I just also have the jpg's of the DVD cover and CD label. it was a torrent. I can play the thing on my computer, though. Evrything seems to be fine except that one VOB file has an erroneous length. hmm.

Can you open the video_ts folder in Windows Explorer, turn on details view, make sure the size column is visible.
Take a screen shot and post it here. -
You should turn off the windows option "hide extensions for known file types" (at least that was what it was called in
XP. You'll find it in control panel folder options).
I suspect the problem occurred during the rip, try re-ripping with DVDfab decrypter.

I have no other suggestions for dealing with the damaged file. -
this disc probably uses fake VTS and your ripper is not dealing with it properly.

I'd also first try running it through FixVTS. If that doesn't work I'd next try demuxing the video, audio, cells, subs (if any) using PGCDemux, reauthoring it (Muxman) and then, assuming everything's OK after that, replacing the original with the reauthored one (VobBlanker).

Well thank you for all your help guys. It is much appreciated. Unfortunately, I do not have the original DVD (I did not rip it, and don't know exactly who did), so I can't rerip. I will try to run the fixvts just to see what happens. Thanks a bunch for the replies, seriously.

Well alrighty then! It lloks like the fixvts was the ticket! I just successfully burned myself a DVD of the video_ts folder. I ran the vob files through the fixvts and it seemed to find about 25 different spots that it was saying were bad or something? Not sure what all that meant, but when it was done, I removed the backup folder from the video_ts folder and tried to burn the DVD again. It was successful, and I can fast forward, reverse, and use all of the bonus features and everything. That is just the shiznit boys. I sincerely thank every one of you for your help in this matter. I am definitely going to be reading up in this forum for help on demuxing and authoring and all that jazz, haha. remember, I am a complete and total newb at this DVD thing. It sure is a different animal than Burning CD's isn't it?

Brainbanana This is a copy protection scheme. It will mess you up if you don't have the tools to defeat it. This forum is really a treasure trove of info, and people looking to help.
