    I'm current using MPC-HC v1.5.2.3456 (haven't upgraded to v1.6.0.4014 yet).

    Under Options > Internal Filters > Transform Filters > double-click MPEG-2 Video

    What deinterlacing mode is "Automatic"?

From what I read on various forums deinterlacing should not be forced upon a video that is already deinterlaced. Will it affect video quality if I changed the setting to Blend?

Problem is, Automatic deinterlacing has been fine until recently when I viewed a few 1920x1080 .ts files that required deinterlacing but Automatic deinterlacing did not…deinterlace. I had to change the setting to Blend as I saw no improvement with other options and some settings like Field Shift and ELA made it worse.

Will I make the video worse by leaving it on Blend? Will leaving it on Blend deinterlace videos that do not require deinterlacing?

All Source and Transform filters are unchecked with the exception of MPEG PS/TS/PVA and MPEG-2 Video.

Doesn't blend make non-interlaced progressive files look worse?
I think auto is best, but no sure why it didn't detect the interlacing in the 1080i video -
perhaps you can contact the author.

    That's what I thought.

I don't know how interlacing works in MPC - HC. Does leaving it on Blend or any other deinterlacing mode always deinteraces a video regardless if it's interlaced or not? or does it deinterlace only when it a video is interlaced?
