Guidance to create either a .wmv or a mpeg

I have been converting audio radio commercials (I worked many years in Advertising) using Polderbits software. Now I would like to do TV which I have many commercials on VHS tape. I can create a dvd on my unit and would like a recommendation for software to take this dvd and create either a .wmv or a mpeg. The dvd creates a .fob file which I found some software to read, but not convert satisfactorly (sp).

Any help or suggestions would be useful.

You can remux the VOB files from the DVD into MPG program streams with a number of programs. Like Mpg2Cut2, VOB2MPG, AviDemux, etc.
