Hey everyone,
I have recently purchased a Hauppauge HD PVR Gaing Edition to record some game play.
So I have my Xbox 360 connected to the input ports, and for the output ports, I wanted to use my 24 inch LED Samsung monitor as the output instead of a television. My monitor only has two VGA ports but the HD PVR has only the component slots. So I was wondering if there's a way I can use my monitor as my main display instead of my tv.
Thanks

To use the HDPVR's component video pass through with a monitor, you need a powered converter. This is one example: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10114&cs_id=1011407&p_id=...seq=1&format=2
Things like this are for home theater projectors with component-in capability through a VGA port and won't work for connecting a PC monitor to a component video source.

no, probably not. component is analog - the lcd most likely has digital dvi inputs, not vga. and if it does have vga you would need a converter.

the same as the converters? -
No. The description of the item says this "Note: This cable requires a video converter or output device that can process a YPbPr signal through an HD15 (VGA) port." Nothing cheap or unpowered will work for this task, period.
...and just to be clear, since too many people end up buying something that will not work properly... Powered VGA to component converters will not work either because powered converters are one-way. You need to find a powered component to VGA converter. This Monoprice converter http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10114&cs_id=1011407&p_id=...seq=1&format=2 is the least expensive one with good reviews from gamers that I have seen.
[Edit] Also, the HD-PVR's component pass-through is meant to be used for a direct conection to a TV that accepts component video input to avoid lagging visuals. There is no guarantee that even an appropriate converter won't introduce a noticeable delay. In addition, the picture displayed by the monitor could be somewhat fuzzy, especially if the converter has no VGA output resolution that exactly matches your monitor's native resolution. This may be what aedipuss meant when he said a converter probably would not work.Last edited by usually_quiet; 23rd Feb 2012 at 23:22.
