Multiple subtitle files into utf8

Hi.

I want to tell me one FREE program that i an convert a lot of srt or txt(At once and not one by one file) or anything else subtitles type files into utf8 or ansii(Compatible subtitles code page for Greek language and media players) srt files into same folders as the source files are.

Is there any program that can do that? And if it does which is that program?

No it doesn't work the program you tell me.
It show the same the subtitle when i input it to the subtitle workshop as before but if i open it with notepad or wordpad it show the subtitle file correctly.

Here it is a sample how it appear the NON utf8 subtitle with subtitle workshop
"47789||52793||Sheldon, ο Καναδάς δεν π�όκειται\~να εισβάλει στην Καλιφό�νια.||||||"

So maybe is better to convert it to ansii or what is the CORRECT font for greek subtitles.

This website can merge subtitle files, but you can use it as an encoding converter if you only add one file :

If you can't find such type of application, then you'll have to learn an easy programming language and create your own conversion script/program I had to do a similar job twelve years ago, and in the end I created a small QuickBasic program to automate the task...

Never tried it, but a simple Google search for 'batch text convert coding' pointed me to:

The thing is that for plain files (which SRT files are), you need to know how the file was generated, and with which encoding.

You can guess automatically with the BOM in UTF-8 ot 16, but in your case, the files are probably using codepages and thus, unless you know the codepages of all the SRT files and that they are all the same, you won't find a simple command line to help you.

If they all have the same codepage, let's say "Greek ISO-5589-7", you can simply use iconv, with something like that :

iconv -f ISO88597 -t UTF8 inputfile.srt outputfile.srt

You could run this command in a loop for each file :

for file in *.srt; do
    iconv -f ISO88597 -t UTF8 "$file" -o "${file%.srt}.utf8.srt"
done

note : these are Linux command lines

If you're not sure of the encoding used, you can have an sample of your subtitle file for a given encoding when you add a file in http://www.srtmerger.org/en/ .

for the common knowledge.
i found this app (Codepage Converter) i think it does waht the op request.
in Source and Destination switch between utf8 and Greek (windows) - 1253.
but first make a backup of yur original file before you converts it.
