A bit more info would help - avi, mkv, mpg, flv, vob, etc etc different solutions.
Best to post a mediainfo report (text mode) and then we will all know...

If you are not an expert you may use Coyote free video converter (http://www.koyotesoft.com/).
Be aware :this is not real free ware and you will get a lot of useless ware when you download it if you don't care.
You will be able to easily convert from many video formats to mp3 (I suppose this is what you want to do).
the free version has an output size limit of 1 GB ,but that doesn't matter for audio.

If you are an expert it will be better to use some video demultiplexing tool an an audio reencoding tool if needed.

VLC can do it but I do not like the converting tool of VLC.

AVI DeMux is a pretty versatile converter. Load your video, set the audio to what you want for output and click 'Save' in the audio drop down menu. Remember to add the extension to the filename as AVI DeMux doesn't automatically do that.

  12. FormatFactory will do most video to audio, audio to audio conversions.

Ac3 isn't common enough for you? Just get an Ac3 decoder for Acm/Dshow and you're done - ready to listen. Avoiding transcoding is as lossless as you can get.

To ecos : only demultiplexing is lossless .
.MP3 is a most mainstream format , you may have good quality by choosing high bit-rate such as 256 kbits/second or higher . Quality will also depend on your re-encoding software with the same bit-rate ,but I can't tell you more about this.

To olyteddy : Thanks ,I didn't know avi demux could output audio files,I will try next time.
