The vast majority of BluRay players cannot be made region free for any type of disc. A few can be made region free for DVD playback only. To be region free for BluRay playback requires a hardware modification to the player. You can probably count on one hand the number of BluRay models in the world that are region free for BluRay playback. If you have to ask about region free on your player, then there probably is no way to make it region free, even for just DVD playback. If there is a code for your player for DVD region free playback then you will find it via a web search or it will be listed in our DVD Players link under "LISTS" on the left side of this website.

Philips makes some cheap DVD players that can still be made region free and can convert between PAL and NTSC video output. Maybe buying one of those would at least let you watch European DVDs. The DVP3560 can still be made region free in the USA/Canada. Your country may have this or other models that can still be made region free.

I think there are some bombastic statements here. There are regionfree firmware for the Toshiba BDX1100, Toshiba BDX1200, Toshiba BDX3100 and Toshiba BDX3200. Making the players regionfree for both DVD and blu-ray. I haven't seen any such firmware yet for the BDX1250, but I don't think the OP's question was so unreasonable.

However, for the OP's possibility to play European DVDs and blu-rays he could download and install the firmware for the BDX1250KB which can be downloaded from here: http://www.dl.toshiba.com/player/NA/GB/EN/BDX1250KB.html. However, that requires that your TV supports PAL, so check that first. I didn't find any firmware online for the BDX1250KU to return the player to American region for DVD and blu-ray. So if your plan is to switch back and forth, then you better wait for that to appear.
