VLC does not support vp70 because it is not open source. You need to ask yourself if it's really worth the effort to play files that use bizarre codecs like this instead of standard ones like Divx/Xvid and H.264/X.264.

Did some research, and I guess the FourCC "VP70" belongs to the VP7 codec.

You are correct, leghorn. This codec was last updated in 2006. There is no longer any compelling reason for it to exist. Even cellphones are capable of playing videos encoded with more CPU intensive codecs today. Again, I have to ask why anybody would even use this today and if it's really worth the effort to try to play files that use it.

VP7 compressed video data created by On2 Technologies Inc. Further details about this can be found in the link below.

    http://www.mediafire.com/download/g87u1nycag83i8g/VP7_or_70_Data_Format_and_Decoder_Overview.pdf

You can play this type of file by downloading and installing following audio/video codec pack:

    http://www.mediafire.com/download/u919ueuakmbiclw/Audio_Codec_Pack_-_VP70.exe

This solve the Windows Media Player error C00D10D1: On2 VP70 (VP70) or Missing codec: On2 VP70 (VP70) error.
These play file in Windows Media Player only after installing codec pack above.

I hope it helps. Thanks for reading and plz like.

Yes. SMPlayer and the underlying MPlayer are free and open source. Both can run as portable apps. No installation and no codec installation required.
