  1. Hey i keep getting the following error when trying to import a video into Adobe Encore.

"The software that's used to decode the media is not available on this system. Installing the correct decoders for the files you are working with may help to correct the problem."

I've checked which codec was used for the file and its VC-1 WMV3 i think?

Any idea where i can get hold of this?! ASAP please! I dont mind having to convert it otherwise as long as i can try and retain the quality as best as possible,

If it's wmv, try installing windows media player.
Or Freemake to a codec your system already has

There's a Windows Media Redistributable Package by MS (wmf11redist). AFAIK, you should install this first. Or maybe you could use Windows Movie Maker to convert the file to some lossless format which is supported by AE.

If your video is some Blu-Ray stream you might use Handbrake to open and convert it.

  6. WMV3 comes with windows install. But other WMV codecs like WVC1 come with WMP11 or 12

Just convert it to whatever format is going to be used for authoring, that way you only incur quality once instead of twice (this way Encore doesn't have to re-encode it)

=> if you are using Encore for DVD, then convert it to DVD compliant MPEG2
=> if you are using Encore for BD, then convert it to BD format (e.g. AVC, or MPEG2)

  7. BTW, that is a very weird error that encore is giving you...

WMV3 should be accepted without installing external codecs

Where is this from? is it possibly DRM protected ? Can you play it in VLC ? or only WMP ?

(If it only plays in WMP, but not other players like VLC, MPlayer, then it's probably DRM protected)

  8. Its my own personal video. Its weird as it does play in VLC etc.

Ill try convert it to MPEG2 and see what happens =[
