    Does anyone know of any utility that i can use to stop my external seagate hdd from going into sleep mode.
    I have seen a couple online but was wondering if anyone has tried one that they could recommend.

    there is an app shipped with seagate drives called seatools that does what you're asking for

    Generally this issue is due to the system turning off devices to conserve power ... Disable all "usb hub" power saving features in device manager under heading > universal serial bus controllers ... is the answer.
