  1. Hi all, my 9.5 years old Sony DCR-PC8E DV starts getting transport faults so I'm looking to replace it with a modern model. I never complained about the video quality, the only 'issue' being the sometimes incorrect whitebalance shooting inside (getting to much blue) or when panning from sun to shade.

At this moment, I'm not sure I need HD (don't have a HD screen yet), and I will be using it for familiy / holiday kind of recordings. Also budget is tight, up to around $400 I think.

How does modern day budget types (like the Sony HDR-CX160) compare to my trusty Sony in term of image quality?

    Thanks, Ralph

well if you could go 650 i'd say go with a canon hv40. shoots HDV or DV on the same tapes as your old cam. you'd be able to play the old tapes in the new cam.

that sony has a sub-par sensor and takes video that is considered barely acceptable.
