Hi, I tried burning this file to DVD disc. Originally its a 7.9GB dvd, so then I used dvd shrink to reduce its size to fit into a DVD 4.7GB. It was fine until burning process was around 70% and it had an error. Does anyone know what the problem is?

Lots of problems here.
1) If I understand this correctly you are actually trying to burn slightly more than the DVD will hold. The burn didn't get far enough for that to be your problem but it is possible that had it gone to the end it would have crapped out on you anyway.
Your real problems are...
2) Your disc is made by CMC. It's crap. And you ...
3) Burned it at 18x. Bad. Very bad. When you have crap media you HAVE to burn slower. With your crap discs I would recommend that you not burn above 4x. If you can't live with that then buy better discs next time. But if you reburn at 4x it should get to the end where it may still fail due to #1 but you'll have a shot at it completing. -
Problem stated in log = I 02:43:58 Image Size: 4,681,498,624 bytes
Too big to fit detected media type being dvd-r ... remove unnecessary content before shrinking and set to 4.3gig max. -
Not true at all as it's only 4465 MB and a DVD-R holds about 24 MB more.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD-R
I agree with jman98, but suspect this is just a bad disc. Try a different one and burn at a slower speed as he suggests, maybe 8X I'd go with. -
Ok, Ill retry it. Thanks for the help!
Edit:
You mention that the disc is made of CMC? What does that mean and whats a better type of disc?
And doesnt DVD-R have enough space to burn....would DVD+R be better?
Sorry for the inconvenience of questions.
P.S.
I burned with 4x speed and it work, thanks for the help again.Last edited by drkzero; 3rd Feb 2012 at 22:44.

Manono says we are wrong in saying that your DVD-R isn't big enough. I admitted that I wasn't sure that I was interpreting the log correctly. DVD+R is actually SMALLER than DVD-R so no need for that.
The ONLY quality brands of discs sold in North America are Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim. Verbatim's Life series which is sold in Best Buy and other stores is cheap crap. If you want good discs, buy online from rima.com or supermediastore.com. Anything made by Taiyo Yuden sold at those 2 online stores is fine. Verbatim's DataLifePlus series is their best quality line of discs, but anything that's not the Life series is good. CMC is a well known low quality, low cost manufacturer.
Thank you for listening to my advice to burn at 4x. Slower burns often make low quality discs burn OK, but in the future you may want to just buy better discs online. -
A little basic mathematics, maybe?
I 02:43:58 Image Size: 4,681,498,624 bytes
4571776/1024=4464.625 MB
A DVD+R holds 4482+ MB
A DVD-R holds about 4489 MB
You could also have looked at the Wikipedia link I provided and seen the figures in the same bytes format as the ImgBurn log.Last edited by manono; 4th Feb 2012 at 14:07.

Yeah, the first division gives it to you in KB, but I kept going as I think in MB pretty much. I suppose one could take the byte size and divide by 1024 x 1024 = 1048576 and gotten the MB number in one division. And one could really confuse things by bringing up binary and decimal dividing, and the difference between MB and MiB. Like, people come here all the time thinking a DVD+/-R holds 4.7 GB because that's what it says on the package and then are surprised their 4.6 GB DVD won't burn. But if they knew that normal people figure a DVD+/-R's size as being closer to 4.37 GB (and ignore the inflated figures put out by the hard drive and DVD+/-R manufacturers), the problem would melt away.

Yeah, but both versions are the same, one in bytes and the other in GB. Even I mentioned in my previous post that the real DVDR size is roughly 4.37 GB. If you divide that bytes figure by 1024 3 times, you'll get 4.377 GB

I have a NEC 3540a. On this drive, the unit itself is able to detect that the burn speed/media combination is too high
and will slow itself down until it's happy. I can often detect it. It doesn't come up in the Imgburn log,
but you can hear the note of the drive motor slow down from 12x to probably 8x for the last 15 - 20% (or so) of the burn.
I thought all burners did this - my NEC is 5 years old.
