  1. a friend of mine gave me his laptop to figure out whats wrong it(1st he told me it's a virus).its a Toshiba Satellite A205 - S5814 .when I hit the power I hear the HD for few sec fan running, black screen with no post, no sound,,nothing. I know even with bad RAM or HD it should post. looks like a bad CPU or MB but I'm not sure yet.

    any idea/tips ?

i'd start with re-seating the ram. remove, swap positions if there are 2, and re-insert. next i'd remove the battery and power cable, then hold down power button for 30 seconds. re-assemble and start. try clicking delete during power up to get to bios, or whatever key toshiba uses.

  3. nothing worked.I even used one of my memory sticks. I put ubuntu CD just for the heck of it. I also noticed the battery doesn't hold a charge at all. as soon I removed the cord the power icon goes off

one more thing.the fan is running even when the lid is closed feels little bet warm

  4. It sounds like the mobo is fried, F2 or F12 should get you into the BIOS.

Pull everything out and try again ... toshiba's are finicky about faulty hd communication ... if it's failing it can halt the system causing this symptom.
