Mine certainly does HD. MPEG-1 and MPEG-2. I've even used it to encode 1920x1080p50 (MPEG-1, as it happens - but it probably works for MPEG-2 as well).

    Cheers,

2B, if you've done "HD" with TMPGenc Plus I don't doubt it. I've output 16:9 many times with no problem from NTSC 480i and 480p source. I'll have to fire up TMPGenc and look that up. On an 4:3 SD TV the 16:9 displays letterboxed, on 16:9 HDTV it displays 1920x1080. I think by "HD" I mean the software won't work BluRay. Maybe so, I never tried it.

  3. You just have to change to one of the HD profiles to get TMPGEnc Plus to encode HD resolutions and bitrates.

Good to know, as I haven't moved to HD yet on the PC I'm using right now. But I will be. Soon .

...or load the extra/unlock.mcf profile to let you do whatever you want.

Of course it won't do H.264, but you can put MPEG-2 HD on BluRay if you want.

Personally I'd take H.264 over MPEG-2 at any opportunity, but MPEG-2 (or even MPEG-1) HD from TMPGEnc Plus is really useful for getting HD to play on old/slow computers. Especially 1080p50.

    Cheers,
    David.
