    Hello!

I have a problem with TV series episodes I have encoded to M4V that they don't play on my iPod Touch.

I use Handbrake to encode it. The iPod Touch preset file, in GSpot fetches me the report as:

Name:	Playing.png
Views:	464
Size:	124.3 KB
ID:	10764

And when I set it to a video bitrate of 480, GSpot result is as follows:
    Playing

The weird part being that the 2nd M4V (the one with specified bitrate of 480) doesn't play on my iPod!?

    I wonder why...

Also, if you have some suggestions for keeping file sizes low and enabling it to play on my iPod directly, you're welcome to post them as well.

    Thanks!

XMedia Recode is not what I'm looking for. It'll also resize the video, just what I don't want.

If you see above, the frame size is something I didn't let it modify.

HandBrake and WinFF have never failed to make a playable video for my iPod Touch using the presets.

I have used Handbrake for both the above and that's what I'm saying.

Why wouldn't the 2nd one play?

Did you alter/customize the settings after you clicked the preset?

Yes. I changed the Audio and Video bitrate to control the filesize.

The Gspot reports are in the first post and you can see there.

You've got to be kidding me by saying that.

That's the most illogical answer I have ever come across on VideoHelp.

Not really. The one that you changed does not work. It's not brain surgery.
    Preset = works
    Yours = doesn't work

I repeat, the answer is pretty lame.

I'm looking for a more technically sound answer. As to 'Why?'

Use MediaInfo to show the characteristics of both files.
Your gSpot screengrabs don't show enough technical information.

MediaInfo says the same thing that gSpot says.

All I can assume from this is that the video bitrate is too low for the iPod to access. That's all I can think.

First of all tell us what IPOD Touch Generation you have...
Each generation has a limit on what video specs it can play.

Apple Website tech specs for 4th Gen Ipod Touch

Apple Website tech specs for 3rd Gen Ipod Touch

Apple Website tech specs for 2nd Gen Ipod Touch

Your post before the edit was exactly what I was looking for.

Although, I'm not sure if it supports lower than 756 (or 753) kbps video bitrate.

Regardless, I got my answer and the way out for storing my videos. Sticking to Handbrake for the conversions.

    Thanks a ton!

  18. Your welcome, I have an array of I-devices and find myself encoding over and over to make them compatible with each device.

And well, that's what I was going through.

So decided to maintain a single copy of everything which would work across all my devices. Thus, MP4, H.264 with AAC it is .
