  1. Hey everybody. Great forum! I would appreciate some advice.

I'm a novice video editor mainly working with avi files so I have been using virtualdub, which is a great little utility, but it lacks the capability to provide transitions between cuts so the end result looks choppy.

Can anyone recommend a relatively simple video editor for avi that will allow me to smooth out my edits?

    Thanks!

If you want transitions you need an advanced/non linear editor like the free Windows Movie Maker. Free and easy but kinda limited.

If you want more features use for example Vegas Movie Studio or VideoStudio Pro.

Or for mpeg2/dvd video go with Mpeg Video Wizard DVD.

Actually, VD can do some simple transitions with the proper filters. Several of them here: http://www.infognition.com/VirtualDubFilters/effects.html
Lots more filters available there also: http://www.infognition.com/VirtualDubFilters/

Others can advise you about a more full featured editor, or look to here: https://www.videohelp.com/tools/sections/video-editors-advanced They can be a bit pricey, though.

    And welcome to our forums.

Power Director 10. Very nice and easy editor. Have many effects, transitions, texts effects, record all feature, 64bits native.

Having tried Pinnacle, Edius and Vegas my preference is for Vegas - just put the video on the timeline and drag it into the preceding clip and it automatically creates your default transition, and show the length. Very quick.
