  1. I have two divx files one is 701mb the other 692mb. I am trying to convert to vcd.

I converted using VirtualDub and TMPGEnc. I end up with file sizes 897mb and 808mb. I used TMPGEnc to join it into one mpg that is 1.66gb. I was then going to cut it in to 3 parts for 3 cd's.

Am I going about this right or this there a better way?

Also what would be the best way to cut the file into 3 parts?

    Thank you.

P.S. Please don't flame me. I am newbie.

  2. Snale,
You're on the right track. There's lots of ways to do this for one you can probably do two cd's for this project, may not be necessary to use a third cdr. Depending on your cd burner, you may be able to overburn the second cd, 808 mb.. to one cdr, if your software and burner support overburning.

The first file 897,hmmm, depending on the quality you are after, you can probably lower the bitrate on this file and scale it down to one cdr, 800 or so mb. U can try lowering the audio rate, to say 128 (from 224 or whatever u have it at..) i wouldnt go below 112, and lower your video bitrate (and or use the saved rate for video) to fit on one cd. Try one of the calculators on this site. http://www.vcdhelp.com/vcdtools.htm. The calculators let u pick the best bitrate to fit onto x number of cd(s).

One of the tools to use to cut mpg is in the tmpgenc menu, file, mpeg tools, mark in and mark out your cut points to fit a cd. Takes some aim.
If you are cutting svcd-mpg, the best tool to use is bbmpg 1.8 (or 1.4 beta that has the avi2mpg.exe which will be 1.8), but you'd have to demux (demultiplex-separate video and audio to two files) and put remultiplex it with bbmpg.

  3. There are several excellent Templates posted here and in the Forum.
that will substantially decrease your file size to the desired 800mb or less without dropping the quality too much. You can then burn as a non compliant using this.
