  1. Hi,

I have a sort of specialized application for a camera and I'm looking for suggestions on a suitable piece of H/W.

In general I'm looking for a Hybrid of a CamCorder a HelmetCAM and an IP Security camera.

    Here are the specific requirements.
    - It will be fixed location.. much like an IP security camera.
    - must have access to recordings from a remote location (Wifi, Ethernet, PoE) are suitable.
    - record at least 720p30fps (1080p preferred)
    - recoding video continuously 24x7 deleting oldest videos when the storage is full
    - record locally to SD card or local Hard Drive
    - I just love the image quality of HD Go Pro so that is what I'm looking for.
    - In particular I 'm looking for the Wide Dynamic range of this sort of camera
    - would like to have inter-changeable lenses
    - must have a programable interface (API or SDK) for downloading recordings.
    - price should be below about $1000
    - form factor should be about like a security camera

I guess to summarize, I need an HD GoPro with Wifi or ethernet ( I know wifi it's an option) and I need to be able to download and delete recordings over wifi while it continues to record.

Has anyone seen anything close to this? I've been scouring the web for weeks and just can't find anything that really meets my needs.

    Thanks

maybe any cam you can use an eye-fi sd card in? probably not going to do the auto delete of old recordings, you would need to manually do it. or maybe hire a custom programmer to write an app for you.

  3. Thanks for the suggestion. I have looked into the eyefi cards. I don't see any sort of API to write a custom program.

I am an experience programmer. I'll do the custom programming if I can find a device that has the required features and an SDK or API.

    Thanks for the idea though.

well maybe it does it by itself. i missed this part.
Endless Memory: Never Miss a Shot Again

Enjoy peace of mind knowing you will never run out of space. Using Endless Memory Mode, the Eye-Fi card automatically frees up space after your pictures & videos are safely uploaded. Go ahead, shoot away.

  5. Yes, well, that would help. but it's only half the equation.

So, if the camera, say, an HD Go Pro. Is on and recording then it will automatically upload the recordings and automatically clear old recordings when the disk is full. Good. But, what is missing is control over the camera. With HD Go Pro it does not do continuous recoding in small files. You click "Start" it starts a file. It records to the same file until you press "stop". Then is starts a new file when you press start again.

There is even a remote control available for go Pro so I could theoretical hack together something to automatically press start/stop on one minute intervals.

    a) This is really getting to much a kludge/hack
    b) there would be a gap in the recording every time the start/stop is activated.

It's a rally close to a workable solution. Just not quite.

    Thanks again.

some avchd cams record in 1 gb chunks, you'd need to find one that also uses sd cards to record to.
