Hello gentlemen, new it these parts, nice to be here.
I have a slight issue with my lacie media player, it will not upgrade it's firmware in any way shape or form.
I am talking about the lacie lacinema classic hd 2tb version.
Tried usb drive formatted to both fat32, fat16, ntfs with the 3.28 firmware on the drive.
As soon as i plugin the usb drive, nothing happens, i can't browse it.
I have tried the networked way also, I keep getting the same message: "the device could not download the updates, check your network connection."
I have to mention, all my other networked devices work perfectly with the setup I have; they all update fine or browse fine.
I thought it was the ports that are blocked, scanned the lacie, it showed ports 80, 139 and 445 open, so I forwarded the aformentioned ports, tested them fine, still nothing.
I am in a bit of a pickle, the device is running the very old and very ... not so featurefull 3.18 firmware.
Without the update I cannot access the media players true potential, and have a very beautiful black shiny NAS, instead of so many more features.
If anyone has any ideas, please post them, believe me when I say that posting this is the last resort, literally tried everything i could think of on this one.

what did you put in the root of the usb stick? zip, folder, or files?

no but some devices want different things. some the zip itself, etc...
i'd try a different usb thumb drive and format it fat16 with default settings and copy nothing but the files on it. plug it in then turn on the lacie and wait a few minutes. if it has the correct files it should find them. not another mention on the web of anyone with update problems.--

I know, I literally turned the interwebz upside down looking for the right answer.
Tried a different setup on the local network, tried stock firmware on the router, then installed ddwrt, no changes on the media player.
Will try a different USB drive on monday when the shops open, so I could get a new one.
Sigh ...
Thanks for the replyes, kind sir.
Will return once i try the USB.
later edit: Upon sniffing the packets in my lan with a filter on the lacies IP i mannaged to find it communicating with a smtp server and a http server wich belong to lacie, so it can communicate with the outside.
This needs further research.
lle: interesting stuff, found out the ftp server sends back a message that too many users are connected trough the login credentials my lacie box sends, tried logging in trough the same credentials in filezilla, got the same answer ... lacie seems to be the issue here !
lle2: I'll be the son of a goose ! the ftp server only hosts 2 files, a .pkg and a .ver, the update lacie provides has 3, a .bin , .fff , .ver ! Quite the discrepancy ! Will try to download the 2 files ... if the server will allow me.
lle3: Hehehe, lacie are not stupid, i will give them that much ! The ack response needs to be the same size in order to download the files, smart work, this way they can avoid invalid downloads (like i'm trying).
lle4: Hmh ... lacie keeps giving me the 421 too many users connected message ... they should really get a better ftp server setup.
lle5: Wonder if i can fake the ftp server, set the same folder tree and make the lacie box think it's updating from mother lacie ....
Final edit: SUCCESS !! thank the Sun for android ! Hacked my android phone to pose as a ext2 storage device, hidden all of the folders on it, marked everything as read-only and installed a auto-mount feature so it would behave as a mass storage device. The second i plugged it in, BOOM, update available, update, now I am A VERY HAPPY camper.
Thanks for the bounceback, really got me going.
