So I made a video game music video, captured with my Hauppauge HD PVR. The bitrate of the raw files are roughly between 13-14mbps.
I use Sony Vegas 10 Pro to edit and render using Sony AVC/MVC setting, which make mp4 files. I render @ 14mbps & 59.940fps, 720p
File size for a 4 and a half minute video is 351mb. Is this normal? I have no problem with file space, other than that larger file take longer to uload to youtube. But is this too big. Should I be able to compress it smaller without degrading quality? Some of my friends think my file sizes are extreme, so I would love for anybody to help clear this up for me. Thanks.

Youtube converts everything to 24-30 fps progressive. There is no point to sending them more.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

Yeah, I render a temp file @ 10mbps for uploading to youtube.
But for my personal collection, 14mbps seems slightly, but noticeably more detailed.
Thank you for the helpful responses. -

Hi Grim 0, I´m a gamer upload videos and use Vegas HD too.
My all sources are 720p@60fps PS3 or emulators videos.
Use VIDCODER with X264/mp4 to encode for YT. (I will put my screens configs soon)
For 480p use 4096 bitrate
For 720p use 6144/8192 bitrate
For 1080p use 10000/12000 bitrate
Any question, reply.

Wow, I downloaded it an re-encoded my video using the default settings.
It cut my file size by 103mb and I can't see any loss in quality. Thank you so much!
