  1. hey everyone

Ok so I have been researching how to convert a .mkv to .avi while still keeping the original subs (font, size, placement, etc.)

I'm literally out of ideas on how to make this work. If it makes any difference i can name the anime i have downloaded and the fansubber (I already bought the official dvds but absolutely cannot stand the terrible yellow pixelated font they use, thus why i am trying to do this)

the steps i am trying to do are as follows:

    1. use MkvextractGUI to extract the .ass files
    2. use Xvid4psp to hardsub and convert the .mkv to .avi (Stuck at step 1, not sure how to do this yet)

using MkvextractGUI v1.6.4.1 to try and extract .ass files

ok so i check the boxes next to
    - Track ID 2: subtitles (S_TEXT/ASS)
    - Track ID 3: subtitles (S_TEXT/UTF8)
and now i click "extract" and it states that the files demuxed sucessfully. and this is where i'm stumped. i go to check the .ass file that should have been extracted and i have a .txt file instead.

I tried opening the .mkv into Xvid4psp and it freaked out every time i tried to open it (opened it in run as administrator and still freaked out)
if i hit play it freezes if i try and do anything to the mkv when it is loaded into the program it freezes. (see attached pic)

    ---------------------------

so that is my story, I am literally bummed out right now. maybe I am doing something wrong, or maybe this simply cannot be done. i wish i could just burn a .mkv straight to a dvd this would be so much easier

If anyone has any ideas or has done this successfully before I'd be very grateful for some help,

    thanks

Use MKVExtractGUI-2 to extract files/streams from your MKV(s), for starters. The original MKVExtractGUI doesn't work correctly with the latest versions of mkvtoolnix.

  5. No problems with MKV and XVID4PSP here...

Do have nay codec packs installed? try uninstallling those
Do you have DIVX PLUS installed on your system... try uninstalling it

There should be an "avi-mux_gui.pdf" in the downloaded ZIP file.

    From the rtfm.info

Your mouse has a right button, so please use it!

Many features, like demuxing audio, setting AAC-sources to be HE-AAC,
setting default flags, are available through the right mouse button.
