One of my laptops is an HP Pavillion DV6000 from 2007 that orginally came with 1 MB of RAM - two Samsung 512K chips.
I decided to upgrade to 2 MB, found a good deal on EBay for two 1 MB Hynix chips. After installation, the Windows
Experience Index went from 3.3 to 2.9, showing the CPU as having the lowest score. It's a single core AMD 64 chip.
The upgraded RAM chips have the same markings and timings as the old ones, only difference is the manufacturer.
Anyone know what would cause the drop in the WEI CPU score ?

    Hi there.

The "Windows Experience Index" is pretty meaningless.
On a fresh install of Vista on my 64-bit HP notebook, that index was "1". But when I installed Internet Explorer 8, the index went to "5".

And speaking of RAMs, the "Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool" may "freeze" while checking some older chips.

it dropped because your computer is 5 years old and they have since raised the bar on the index ratings. even if you hadn't increased your ram, your rating still would have dropped just from running the test again. basically, what was a 3.3 in 2007 is only a 2.9 in 2012..

You mean 2gb of ram,not 2mb,that would make your laptop 20 years old.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.

  6. You should know that the Windows Experience index is the result of the lowest score in all the categories. If you upgrade something that has a higher score than the WEI, it will not increase the WEI.

Since the scores are relative, it's normal your old single core CPU's score, which was 3.3 relative to a 4 core CPU in 2007, would be lower in 2012 when compared to a new 8 core CPU.
