I see a lot of threads about these 3 apps and I wondered...do these apps perform basically the same function?..i.e...do they all do the same things with Blu Ray titles or do they have their little differences?
I'm aware of the hassle BD Rebuilder has having to use/setup with certain other software to get it work right but are the results pretty much the same as the others I've mentioned? There seems to be a lot of pro's and cons and I wondered what seems to be the simplest hassle free one to get the job done with good results
(I'm bored today so I thought I'd post this to ease my mind)![]()

BD Rebuilder requires a blu ray movie as input. It can compress blu ray, or convert to mkv, avchd, mp4 or even dvd-video, but it is more constrained on what it can take as input. BD Rebuilder has become my primary tool for converting blu ray to dvd, as I've had fewer issues with it compared to AVStoDVD for this particular chore. It is also the one to use if you are simply compressing blu ray video and retaining menus.
Ripbot and Handbrake are a little more versatile on input and if you want to change encoding parameters, I find them to be a little easier to manipulate.
The presets for mobiles in each program will be similar, but not necessarily identical. -
I had a problem with BD Rebuilder, But after uninstalling all components and reinstalling it worked, don't know why that happen. Another excellent program which I feel is the easiest to use is VSO Blu-ray Converter Ultimate, I just tried it yesterday to rip two blu-rays main movie only down to a dvd-5 and to me the picture looked perfect.

is there a link where it shows the exact software/versions needed to be installed to make BD rebuilder to work correctly?
I know a few people and they say close to the same thing...when BD rebuilder is configured correctly it works great but Ripbot and Handbrake are super simple to use.Seems like it's one of those "take your choice" type scenarios.
I'll ll look at VSO as I progress with these apps....so many to choose from. -
Get the helper programs for BD Rebuilder from the first page of jdobb's thread over at doom9: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=143716
That first post has a lot of important information for setting up the program, so read it carefully, or look through a basic guide for BD Rebuilder. I wrote one a while back here: http://club.myce.com/f142/bd-rebuilder-guide-313227/ But its getting a little long in the tooth now, and jdobbs has added a lot of features since then.
Make sure to run the Inspect.exe program once you have all the auxiliary programs installed, as it will tell you if you have any problems that need to be addressed. -
I used the inspect tool...it says that Avisynth is the wrong version(page says use 2.58 and I have 2.58)...ffdshow is wrong and haali media splitter is wrong...I dunno...I'm using both the correct Avisynth and haali Meida Splitter but Inspect says wrong...ffdshow I'm not sure which version to use..If I remember correctly I ran into this issue last year and I gave up trying to use it...what a frustrating app to get right

Apparently there was something wrong with inspect.exe, which should be fixed now in the latest version of BDRB. Notice the date of the post, 14th December 2011. So make sure you have latest BDRB:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1544960#post1544960
From there if no joy, uninstall everything, and be sure to manually delete the Haali folder after uninstall. If it's corrupted and junk remains in the program folder, a re-install likely won't fix it. Then re-install everything. And since you're on Win7, when you retest, right-click the BDRB executable and run as admin. If anything is incorrectly configured, BDRB should offer to fix it for you. (I can confirm that worked on my recent build).
Good luck.Pull! Bang! Darn! -
the only place I know where to download "Inspect.exe" from is in here on the BD Rebuilder Page....and that's the one thats telling me almost everything is wrong. Is there an alternate link to download it from? I don't see one from the link you posted
-
that was it fritzi93...the downloaded version from here doesn't work for me...i uninstalled then reinstalled all the recommended apps then ran the "inspect.exe" in the BD Rebuilder folder and voila!!!!...everything says "OK"
has there been any results where someone ran a newer version of ffdshow or Haali Media Splitter with this app? -
Sure, if you have the patience to read through the bug report thread, it comes up from time to time.
You might get away with it, you might not. When I built my new computer and put Win7 64-bit on it, the recommended version of ffdshow caused problems (though not with BDRB). So I used the version AVCHDCoder was using and everything was okay. Not long after, jdobbs changed the version he recommended (and tested) to a newer version. Which I'm now using without problems.
If you use a version of the helper programs not recommended, you'll get no sympathy at the bug report thread, for obvious reasons. From time to time someone reports problems and turns out they didn't use the linked versions. They get dressed down for wasting everyone's time.
I see no reason for not using the linked versions if everything works okay. Good luck.Pull! Bang! Darn! -
with ffdshow i assume it shouldn't be to big a deal to leave as is but i figured haali media splitter has changed some in the time over the version recommended in BDR so I wondered why it hadn't been updated to accept the most recent version.
Yeah I've had a few issues over the years at doom but I haven't been in there in such a long time I just read stuff there and don't bother posting. I can get a little touchy when I get the dressing down at some of these sites, that's why I mostly post in here. I can generally get my way around these apps but I never had as many issues as I have trying to get BDR to work correctly. Reading thru the error log posted in there is a challenge to say the least. I appreciate you finding that issue with the "Inspect.exe". I can't imagine trying to sift through 600 pages of that stuff lol
