    Hi all,
    Attached is a brief clip from The Money Pit (1986) ; around 15 seconds.
    For anyone that knows how shots were composited back then, can you take a look at explain how a couple things were done? ...
    When Shelley Long's double is running back and forth, you can tell that something isn't quite "right" / authentic. It almost looks like the lamp and door are layered above the footage of her running...?
    I'm wondering how they achieved the far shot where both Shelley and Hanks' doubles are in the same shot; Hanks hanging from the top story and Long balancing so she won't fall. Again, something looks fake, and I'm sure it is. It looks like Long's body might be blue-screened...?
    I obviously didn't know of the best place to post this; sorry all.
    Thanks for your help and knowledge
    - Justin

  2. The 1st one is just a bad edit from 2 different takes . Go frame by frame in vdub, you will see a missing frame in the 1st pass, and the 2nd take has the door more slightly ajar

    The 2nd one is usually done with harness & wires for that type of scene, then wires are removed in post production, but the shadows look wrong in that shot from the lighting in the scene . eg. When Shelly Long first comes to the edge, there is her corresponding shadow on Tom Hank's back ; which of course makes no sense

    I'm not certain, but I think part of the problem might've been where I made the cuts to shorten the clip. I attached a sample of the same scene but without editing. Are the same problems still there?

    You brought up something I was wondering about. What is your personal/ideal method for removing duplicates? I know I've asked this before but I don't recall how you mentioned preferring to go about it.

    avisynth

    Code:
    mpeg2source()
    tfm()
    tdecimate()
    If it's pure film , you can use "force film" in dgindex when creating the .d2v
