    Last week, I've download a AVI's file, which based on Handbrake Source's information it is a 1280*688 or 1.860:1
    But after I convert it into MKV ... the aspect ratio was changed into 4:3.
    How can I maintain the original aspect ratio?
    Please help.

    Did you convert it to same frame size? 1280x688?

    What says 4:3? And does it look stretched to 4:3?

    When the file was read, in Preset: Regular > Normal mode, the Handbrake said:
    Source: 1280*800
    Display: 936*688

    What should I do in order to maintain original's aspect ratio what should I choose in:
    * Anarmophic = Strict / Loose / Custom / None ?
    * Modulus = 16 / 8 / 4 / 2 ?

    * Display Width = ???
    * PAR Width = ???
    * PAR Height = ???

    Not sure what's happening. Odd parameters.
    Bit rate : 384 Kbps
    Width : 1 280 pixels
    Height : 944 pixels

    1280*960 is 4:3
    Last week, I've download a AVI's file, which based on Handbrake Source's information it is a 1280*688 or 1.860:1
    FYI:- 1.86:1 is close to Panavision, Cinemascope & Super 16 which are 1.85:1.

    Have you tried another video?

    Go to Tools/Options and turn on logging.
    Verbose = 2
    Log to the same location as the encoded video.
    When the encode is done open the log file and look for the line starting: # CLI Query:
    Post that line.

    Hint to do a short encode, in the advanced tab type the start and end frames.:

    Would you also post the MediaInfo results for the downloaded AVI please?

    Cheers!

    Hi.
    You say in your first post that you downloaded an AVI.
    MediaInfo results are for the following..
    Complete name : C:\Users\***\Videos\The Dark Knight =Extras= Gotham Uncovered (2008).mkv
    Was it an MKV you downloaded or is this the output from your conversion?

    We really do need that line from the Handbrake log.

    SORRY
    ... it was not an AVI ... it should be a MKV file.
    As you see ... overall bit rate : 4,318 Kbps ...
    My purpose is just to reduce the bit rate to 384 Kbps.
    In order to minimize disc space

    Basically, if you want such a low bitrate then you'll have to reduce the resolution or the frame rate. Probably both.
    You could try an encode with the resolution set manually and a bitrate of 400:

    The best option is get a bigger disk drive.

    We've both used the same 0.9.5 ... current guess ... is my version is older than yours.
    Today, I download the newest one ... have it installed tonight ... tomorrow will back to you.
    Thank you.

    For Temporary, I've addressed the problem here:

    It's pretty subjective. On my screen the edited pic looks fine.

    If the file is small enough to satisfy you, then job done.

    A small amount of sharpening might enhance the overall viewing,
    Turning 'Trellis' on in the advanced tab will do this.
    The sharpening process may also introduce blocky artifacts.
    Trial and error. As I said; It's pretty subjective.
